Only a matter of time before they figure out how to use their toe claws to slash at you.

Good luck! Funny 'childproofing' story to share -

We had our house pretty well childproofed (my wife used to run a family day care at our house). Had friends over visiting with 7 and 3 year old kids. We are all hanging out in the living room on the couch and for some reason the kids end up unsupervised for a few minutes... their 3 year old runs into the room with a spray bottle of cleaner and the nozzle pointed right at his face, turns to look at us and says "hey look what I found...". Points it at something (he thinks, it's really pointed backwards right at his face) and begins to squeeze... it was like a movie scene, slow motion with 4 adults leaping from the couch and tripping over each other, screaming "nnnnn ooooooooooooooooo" you could visualize later the slow motion leaping and flying across the rooom... but we didn't make it. He sprayed himself full in the eyes...

Fortunately it wasn't a harsh cleaning agent and no long term damage was done. We were laughing about it very much 15 minutes later (except the poor kid).

Moral of the story? No matter how much you childproof, you still won't be prepared. Kids are amazing.

Been there. It's hard at first.

My daughter had an affinity for playing in the toilet (yes, children are disgusting creatures). Not much of one for spanking, but that's a behavior that I couldn't deal with (while rare, kids have been known to get stuck in toilets and manage to drown in 5 inches of water). A few good spankings later, and it isn't a big deal. Unfortunately, at 16mo, I doubt the kid would know what they were doing wrong anyway. My daughter is 3.5 now, and at least understands boundaries, so it isn't so bad (Bathrooms aren't for playing. Don't go into the parental units' room uninvited).
